Barrelback Swan Chair
A favorite of Empress Joséphine's, swans were a recurring decorative motif during the reign of Napoleon I, gracing everything from drapes and carpets to fine porcelain and furniture. This chair's artfully carved swan arms form elongated S curves, further echoed in the scrolled legs and arching chair rail. Hand-sewn puff tufting and whipstitching detail the firmly cushioned barrel back and loose-seat cushion.
